When you get ready to start this book, be sure you have cleared your schedule. That’s because once you start reading, you’re not going to want to put it down. Right from the beginning, I was completely captivated and pulled in to this intricately detailed world that the author has created-and every turn of a page drew me in deeper.

The characters are extremely well developed with every single one of them contributing something to the story, and all of them-including the fallen-raptly held my attention. You really feel for the characters, especially the Archangel (and Heaven’s General) Michaela who fights to do what is right, no matter what has happened to her, and no matter the consequences to herself. She is good through and through, even if at times she might seem to do things that contradict that.

The character of Clark, a human, is an interesting one and it’s quite satisfying watching his journey from being a virtual outcast in the Descendants to best friend of a supposedly disgraced Archangel. He becomes a strong character, dependable and loyal.

And then there’s Gabriel. Sigh- and swoon-worthy, this powerful and devoted Archangel will capture your heart with his complete commitment to Michaela, consistently displaying strength of character and his love.

A roller coaster ride the whole way through, The Hunted One has action, romance, an amazing world, an astounding cast of characters and a storyline that will keep you engaged the whole way through—and begging for more once you’re done. 5 simply stunning stars for a book that has easily earned its way onto my top recommendations list!

The Hunted One End of Days Series Book 1 edition by Meg Collett Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The Nitty Gritty Cover? Gorgeous. Writing? Excellent. The narrative was clean, grammatically correct, and with the exception of one typo that I found, error-free. The imagery in this novel was outstanding, and I felt sucked into the story right away. The pace never lagged, and I never got lost or felt the need to skim.

I enjoyed this story immensely. I’m not a religious person… I can’t name off the arch angels in heaven or any of the mythos behind the Christian umbrella of faith, but I certainly enjoyed this foray into the fantastical world-building of Ms. Collett and the rich story-telling she built off of it. It’s almost a discredit to limit this book to the genre’s of New Adult Fantasy Romance, because there was a lot more to it than that. The Hunted One was a story of betrayal, politics, adventure, and mystery. There were bits of thriller and action, and yes, a little bit of romance, but also themes of tragedy and faith. I went into this story expecting a lovey-dovey paranormal book, and came away feeling like I’d read a gripping action/adventure tale filled with the battle of good vs. evil and true friendship.

The characters in the book were well-fleshed out and filled with depth. I especially enjoyed the hesitant friendship between Clark and Michaela. They were an odd pair, and often the friendship was skewed towards one side or the other, but their antics were both heartwarming and gut-wrenching at times. The two characters couldn’t be any more different, but they united in a way that was natural and didn’t feel forced.

The ending was powerful, and I don’t want to give too much away, but I’m looking forward to the next book in the series with baited breath. Would I recommend this book? Yes. Capital Y. Would I read it again? In a heartbeat. If you enjoy paranormal/fantasy fiction, action and adventure, and battles of good vs. evil, you’ll probably love this book. It wasn’t what I expected, but it turned out better than I’d hoped. Can’t wait for the next one!
The Hunted One is the beginning to what promises to be an amazing series. Michaela is the leader of the archangels - the highest choir of angels in heaven. Along with the other archangels, she is trusted with protecting Heaven from the fallen along with watching out for humans on earth. For the first time in forever the fallen appear in purgatory just outside of heaven. Michaela and her archangels go to confront them, when Michaela makes two horrible mistakes. One leaving the gates of heaven open while she goes to drive the fallen back. And more damaging, trusting her fellow archangels. Betrayed by her friends Michaela is overpowered and dragged to earth while the fallen have free reign to attack heaven. To make matters worse the other choirs of angels believe that Michaela actually was in on the plan and betrayed heaven. Now broken and wingless, Michaela is in deep trouble. She must clear her name, safe the other archangels who did not fall but who are now on the run (including Gabriel who is imprisoned in Hell!) and prevent the end of days. All this with only the human Clark, one of the Descendants of Enoch. She is running out of time and obstacles just continue to build.

First off let me just say this is not your typical angels and demons story. Good is not always good and bad is well lets just say it is complicated. The world that Meg Collett creates is so involved and so intense, it just gets more and more intriguing with each page that you turn. I was utterly captivated by this, often unwilling to put it down. I know that some other reviewers have mentioned that this might start off a little slowly but I disagree. So much happens in the first chapter, that a big initial chunk of the book is spent dealing with the ramifications of those first few pages. And a lot of the that has to do with the emotional landscape of the characters first and foremost. We really get a chance to see the devastation that Michaela’s psyche experiences and I think that makes us more anxious for the events that happen later in the book.

Collett does a wonderful job drawing us into her characters - particularly Michaela and Clark. Michaela’s hurt is so visceral, so poignant that you ache for her. You want to see her strong again, need for her to find a way to overcome everything. I was really intrigued by her relationship with Gabriel and I cannot wait to see where that will go. I was often shocked by Gabriel’s constant mood changes, which often seemed more dramatic when compared to the really introspective nature that is Michaela. Gabriel is so -- passionate and every time we see him we see a completely different aspect of his character. But it works - it makes sense, and it surprisingly really pushes the story forward. And Clark….oh my goodness Clark is such a brilliant character. He is absolutely hysterical and adorable. At the same time I think that there are so many layers to him which we are just starting to see and I for one cannot wait to what becomes of him.

Just when you think that you have a handle on where the story is going something else is thrown in, another part of the mystery rears its head and you see just how complex this will become. I cannot wait to read the next chapter in this story.
