The Changelings War of the Fae Book 1 eBook Elle Casey

This book is not listed as a YA...probably due to bad language. There are no sexual scenes. The characters are teens. Usually I can't get very involved with the younger characters in these books because they're usually portrayed as whiners, and tend to be obnoxious, stubborn, and thoughtless. Which is generally an Author's way of progressing the plot suspense, because they act before thinking and get their friends into trouble.

But for some inexplicable reason, I found myself liking this young Heroine. She didn't whine much, and her relationship with her male best friend was endearing. I became immersed in the plot and found myself looking forward to turning the next page. Each character, and their relationships with each other, kept my interest. Add the supernatural species to the mix, and I was reading it right through to the end.

Which brings me to the end---which was a cliffhanger of sorts. I say "of sorts" for a reason. I hate cliffhangers, and will usually refuse to continue a series if that occurs in the first book of a series. However, and I thank the Author for this fact...she states at the end that she has enabled the next book to have a "Look Inside" option on the product page, which will allow a free look at the first 4 chapters in Book 2. Which in this case, gets the reader of Book 1 past the cliffhanger.

I wish all Authors would eliminate Cliffhangers completely. But if they do have an overwhelming urge to end a book with such irritating ploys--then allowing the reader to immediately get past the nasty cliffhanger with this free look at the next book is the next best thing. Bravo, and I will likely continue the series.

The Changelings War of the Fae Book 1 eBook Elle Casey Reviews

This book was really funny. I have to mention that because it's what stood out most for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and liked the dynamics going on between the heroine and the side characters. HOWEVER, (slight spoiler) I kept getting a feeling that this was going to turn into one of those "the main character is just so wonderful and powerful and all the guys are falling over her". While that didn't exactly happen here, the ending gave a pretty clear indication that it absolutely will in the rest of the series. I also didn't like how everything horrible was cleaned up so nicely in too short of a timeframe and all of the characters just lost their wits. It made it a lot less believable and in the end I wasn't on board with continuing the journey with any of these characters. Since the writing was very well done and engaging, I will look for more work from this author in the future. I would recommend this book for a teenager (13+) but for a reader who is any older than 18, I fear they will have to suspend too much reality to enjoy and the pay-off isn't worth it.
I absolutely love this book and the characters who are in it. The book grabs you and sucks you right in. The author's attention to detail, makes it seem you are right there in the book with them. I couldn't put it down and I was flipping through the pages.
I really liked ,Jayne, with her potty mouth and take no crap attitude. And her nerdy best friend who stuck right by her through everything. Something happens where they end up running away. Then, they meet a crew of people that they are going to get to know very well. An opportunity for them to make some money leads to a whole new magical experience for all of them. There are a lot of different fae in the book as well. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
Started out ok, but went downhill soon. I loved the relationship between Jayne and Tony from the beginning. Jayne who is rebellious because of abuse, needs to keep everyone at a distance, and Tony, smart geeky nerd with a heart of gold. It would have been a great story on it's own, but then they were thrown in a magical forest testing ground. Strange battles, other boring characters, I don't swear and none of my friends do either, so when this story started with all the "F" words I was ready to stop reading. The story kind of ends not knowing what else happened with everyone. It's supposed to encourage the reader to buy more of the series, but this goes on for 10 books! Not interested.
This book was readable and edited well, which for me is saying something. It's got a good concept and storyline, but there are things that irritate me which is why I scored it the way I did. I enjoyed the voice of the characters but part of me thinks that some are over exaggerated and other understated (we learn everything there is to know about the main character and absolutely nothing about anyone else. She didn't even bother trying to find out anything about anyone other than how hot they were!) . The biggest thing that irritates me is the fact that it reads like a diary compared to an actual story. To figure out a way to explain what is happening in real time without the sub-text would have probably made it to where I couldn't have put the book down instead of the book making me pass out multiple times because I just couldn't get into it and bond and root for the characters.
